Sanya Lopez did not originally visit Walang Tulugan with the Master Showman to ask for a place in show business. She went to see her brother, actor Jak Roberto, who had already started pursuing a career in entertainment.
That visit placed her in front of the person who would give her an unexpected opportunity.
“My journey in the entertainment industry started with Walang Tulugan with the Master Showman,” Lopez said. “I visited my brother on the show before, and that’s when Kuya Germs noticed me.”
The late German “Kuya Germs” Moreno saw potential in her and invited her to join the program.
“He told me that he wanted to include me in Walang Tulugan with the Master Showman, and from there, everything started,” she said.
The invitation opened a path that Lopez had not expected to begin that day. It allowed her to enter an industry that could eventually help her pursue a goal she had carried since childhood: to give her family a more stable and comfortable life.
A Dream Rooted in Family
Lopez’s original motivation was not simply fame or public recognition. Her ambitions came from the circumstances she experienced while growing up.
“I think it was mainly because of my family and the kind of life we had before,” she said. “Growing up, I dreamed of having a stable job and being able to give my family a better life.”
Her childhood dreams were practical. She wanted the security that came with having a comfortable home, reliable transportation and a career that could support the people closest to her.
“Even as a child, pangarap ko na magkaroon ng magandang bahay at sasakyan,” Lopez said. “Those simple dreams inspired me to work hard.”
For a young person who had seen financial uncertainty, a house and car represented more than material success. A home could provide stability, while a vehicle could make work and daily responsibilities easier to manage.
These goals gave Lopez a clear reason to take her opportunity seriously once Kuya Germs brought her into the program.
She also drew inspiration from her brother.
“I also became more inspired when my brother started entering showbiz,” she said. “Seeing him made me realize that if my sibling could do it, maybe I could too.”
Her brother’s experience made a career in entertainment appear possible rather than distant. It also created the prospect that the two siblings could work toward the same family goal.
“And I thought it would be even better if the two of us could help our family together,” Lopez said.
The Opportunity Kuya Germs Opened
For many young performers, the hardest part of entering entertainment is receiving the first legitimate opportunity.
Talent may be present, but someone still has to provide a platform where that talent can be seen. For Lopez, Kuya Germs became that person.
“The opportunity that opened the doors for me was Walang Tulugan with the Master Showman and, of course, the help of Kuya Germs,” she said.
Moreno became known for giving young and aspiring artists a place to develop their confidence in front of an audience. His support extended beyond allowing them to appear on television.
“He was very supportive and hardworking when it came to introducing and guiding us in the industry,” Lopez said.
That guidance gave Lopez a starting point, but it did not immediately turn her into a leading actress. She still had to accept smaller assignments and gradually show that she could handle greater responsibilities.
“After Walang Tulugan, I started doing small extra roles in different GMA teleseryes,” she said.
Extra roles may offer limited screen time, but they can provide valuable exposure to the way television productions operate. A new artist learns how to follow directions, work with a production team and remain prepared even when the role appears small.
For Lopez, those assignments became steps toward a larger opportunity.
When Encantadia Changed Everything
Her career reached a turning point in 2016 when she was cast in GMA Network’s fantasy series Encantadia.
“My first big break was definitely Encantadia in 2016,” Lopez said. “That project truly changed my life, and that’s where everything really started for me.”
The role introduced her to a much wider audience and gave her a level of visibility that small television appearances could not provide.
It also represented the result of the path she had taken from Walang Tulugan to supporting assignments in different programs.
“After Walang Tulugan, I started doing small extra roles in different GMA teleseryes until I was finally given my big break through Encantadia,” she said.
The breakthrough did not erase the importance of the smaller roles that came before it. Those experiences gave Lopez time to understand the industry and build the skills she would eventually need for a major project.
Her story shows why early opportunities matter even when they appear limited. A small role may not create instant recognition, but it can place an artist closer to the people and projects that shape a career.
For Lopez, each assignment became part of the preparation that led to Encantadia.
From a Chance Encounter to a Career
Lopez’s entertainment journey began through a series of connected events.
She visited her brother at Walang Tulugan. Kuya Germs noticed her and offered her a place on the show. Her brother’s example encouraged her to believe that she could also build a career in entertainment.
The opportunity matched the dream she already carried: to secure a stable future and help improve her family’s life.
“I dreamed of having a stable job and being able to give my family a better life,” she said.
The path toward that goal required patience. Lopez did not move directly from her introduction on Walang Tulugan to a starring role. She accepted small parts and continued working until Encantadia gave her the breakthrough that changed her life.
Her rise may have begun with an unexpected encounter, but the years that followed depended on her willingness to use every opportunity she received.
Kuya Germs opened the first door. Her brother gave her another reason to believe the journey was possible. Her family gave the journey its purpose.
By the time Encantadia arrived, Lopez was no longer simply the young woman whom Kuya Germs had noticed while she visited her brother. She had become an actress ready for the opportunity that would introduce her to a much larger audience.
