In many organizations, legal and HR functions operate in separate silos. But for Alyana Gutierrez, a Certified Human Resource Professional, combining them is what makes her approach so effective.
“In my current role as an Officer for Legal Services and Human Capital Management, I navigate between HR responsibilities and legal services, ensuring a balanced approach to both employee relations and organizational compliance,” she told Financial Adviser PH.
Each day, Alyana manages a wide range of responsibilities—guiding employment policies, addressing HR-related concerns, and handling legal tasks like contract reviews, labor law compliance, and dispute resolution. It’s a role that demands both structure and empathy.
“This dual role allows me to bridge the gap between employee well-being and regulatory requirements, ensuring that both human and legal aspects of the workplace align harmoniously,” she said.
That harmony doesn’t happen by accident. For Alyana, it’s about blending compassion with consistency. “Every day presents a unique challenge—whether it’s resolving workplace concerns, refining policies, or ensuring adherence to legal protocols—all of which contribute to a fair, transparent, and well-functioning organization.”
Her guiding principle? Structure with heart. Alyana is especially passionate about employee engagement and discipline—not as opposing forces, but as complementary parts of a healthy workplace.
“Building strong relationships with employees fosters trust, collaboration, and a sense of belonging,” she explained. “At the same time, instilling the discipline of following policies and procedures ensures structure, fairness, and accountability.”
This balance has been central to her leadership style. She believes that empowerment must come with clarity, and motivation should be grounded in a shared understanding of expectations.
“Through effective communication, leadership support, and continuous education, HR plays a crucial role in driving both engagement and adherence to best practices,” she said.
By straddling the worlds of legal compliance and people development, Alyana doesn’t just keep the organization running—she helps it thrive. Her approach reminds us that in HR, the most impactful leaders don’t choose between rules and relationships. They master both.
