For King San Jose, a Certified Technical Analyst and expert in managing retirement funds, technical analysis isn’t just a trading tool—it’s a crucial part of his risk management strategy.
“As an expert in retirement funds for individuals and corporations, it is important we tackle all different aspects of the market, which includes market behavior,” King told Financial Adviser PH. “This is part of the risk management model on how we can help our clients enter and exit.”
While most long-term investors rely heavily on fundamentals, King believes technical analysis provides an edge—especially when timing is critical. “We are trading in seconds and minutes,” he said, recalling his early experience working in a proprietary trading firm in Canada. “Technical analysis is much more reliable compared to fundamentals as data may require days to months to be reflected in the market unless crucial and immediate data are released.”
His perspective became even more relevant during the pandemic. When financial markets were volatile and economic data lagged, technical indicators became his go-to framework. “The closure of the market during the pandemic… since fundamental reports are reported late, we rely on technical indicators to help manage the risk,” he explained.
Beyond trading, King uses technical analysis to guide long-term investment decisions. As someone who holds multiple financial licenses in the Philippines, he views a deep understanding of market patterns as non-negotiable. “It is required for me to understand different market approaches to help my client manage their investments,” he said.
To stay sharp, King continues to deepen his expertise through study and certification. “For more than 10 years in my profession, I decided to further study and understand all financial materials that are currently available in the Philippines to help my clients reach their current goals.”
This journey eventually led him to the Society of Technical Analysts (STA) and international CTA certification. “An international certification body must certify my profession,” he said. “Knowing the best practices and the current market trends… proper training is crucial, especially for consultants like me.”
For King San Jose, technical analysis isn’t just about charts—it’s about delivering smart, timely advice that helps clients secure their financial future.
