When it comes to leading high-performing teams, many assume the best leaders are the ones with all the answers. But for Jun Roy, Certified Management Consultant and CEO of the Regenerative Transformation Institute, real leadership is about listening—not just leading.
“I constantly remind myself that I don’t have exclusivity to good ideas and that I cannot always be right,” Roy told Financial Adviser. “So, I listen to them. Patiently and purposefully.”
Roy motivates his team by being a good listener, a mentor, and a supporter. Instead of managing from a place of authority, he leads with humility—creating space for his team to speak up, challenge him, and grow alongside him.
“I give opportunity for others to call me out, contradict my views, or for them to express themselves openly,” he shared.
That openness, he says, is key to building trust and encouraging innovation.
As someone who was shaped by strong mentors throughout his career, Roy has made it his mission to do the same for others. “As a product of mentoring, it has become innate in me to also mentor others,” he said.
He believes that personal and professional growth are among the most powerful motivators for any team member—and it’s the leader’s job to support that growth.
“One of the most motivating situations for any team member is when he or she experiences both personal and professional growth through the support of a leader,” Roy said.
His approach reflects a leadership style that has evolved over time—from being results-driven early in his career to becoming people-centered and purpose-driven today.
Roy’s message is simple but powerful: great leaders don’t need to have all the answers—they need to create the right conditions for others to shine.
By listening deeply, mentoring intentionally, and empowering his team, Roy proves that influence isn’t about control—it’s about connection.
