The ‘Boring’ Investing Strategy That Tripled This Financial Planner’s Portfolio

When you think of millionaire investing, you might picture aggressive trades or high-risk ventures. But for Fitz Villafuerte, a Registered Financial Planner (RFP), the real edge lies in staying boring—and consistent.

“I’m glad I ‘forced’ myself to invest monthly. When the bull run came, my portfolio tripled in value—because I never stopped showing up,” he shared in an exclusive interview with Financial Adviser PH.

Fitz didn’t start as a financial guru. Like most people, he juggled his time between building businesses and managing his personal finances. But he knew that working hard wasn’t enough—his money had to work just as hard.

This realization led him to cost averaging: a strategy that involves investing a fixed amount at regular intervals, regardless of market conditions. “This was a period when I became obsessed with building passive sources of income,” Fitz said. “Given that managing my businesses takes most of my days, this was my best option at that time.”

The appeal of cost averaging was clear. It was simple, automated, and didn’t require constant monitoring—a perfect fit for someone with a packed schedule. More importantly, it gave him peace of mind during market ups and downs.

“It’s a boring strategy and that’s why I like it,” Fitz admitted. “The value of the shares that I bought little by little every month from before suddenly tripled in value within months.”

That bull run wasn’t luck—it was the result of years of discipline and consistency. By “forcing” himself to invest every month, even when returns were flat or when the market felt uncertain, he built a habit that paid off exponentially.

While others tried to time the market or jumped from one trend to another, Fitz kept his focus. He didn’t chase hype. He just kept showing up.

Today, despite his millionaire status, his investing style hasn’t changed. He still follows the same strategy that got him there in the first place.

For those intimidated by the stock market or unsure when to start, Fitz’s message is simple: start small, stay consistent, and stick to a system. “Cost averaging” may not sound sexy—but it works.
