    Balancing People and Performance: How Great Hospitality Leaders Protect Employee Well-Being While Hitting Big Goals

    “To balance the team’s goals and the well-being of my team members, I focus on working together toward our shared goals while still making sure everyone feels valued,” says Adrian Fernandez, Certified Tourism Professional, whose leadership philosophy blends service excellence with genuine care for people.

    Fernandez believes that strong relationships are the foundation of high-performing teams. “I take the time to get to know my team, spending time with them, laughing, eating, and sharing stories. This helps create strong friendships where we can work well together.”

    While he guides his team toward big-picture objectives, he ensures that personal well-being is never overlooked. “While I lead the team and show them the bigger picture, I also make sure they have time for themselves and enjoy a healthy balance between work and personal life. I want everyone to feel comfortable being themselves, knowing they are appreciated not just for their work, but as people with their own lives outside of work.”

    This approach, he explains, keeps morale high and motivation strong. “This helps keep the team happy and motivated to do their best.”

    For Fernandez, leadership is about creating a workplace where people thrive both professionally and personally. “I strongly believe that leadership should not come from a place of authority or superiority, but from the ability to motivate and inspire others to follow you.”

    He also believes that recognition is a powerful motivator. “I make sure to praise my team when they deserve it, recognizing their hard work and effort. This creates a space where people feel valued and motivated to keep pushing themselves to do their best.”

    By building trust, encouraging collaboration, and respecting boundaries, Fernandez has been able to deliver exceptional service without compromising the well-being of his team. “When my team sees me putting in the effort and maintaining a high level of dedication, they are inspired to do the same.”

    His philosophy is simple but powerful: happy, respected employees naturally deliver great results. “When you’re passionate about something and have a clear purpose, you’ll eventually find success.”
