When Eldee Africa-Villapando, a Certified Human Resource Professional (CHRP), first started in HR, it was just a job. Over time, it became something more—a platform where she found both meaning and purpose.
“For me, the most fulfilling part of being in HR is being an enabler of people’s growth,” she told Financial Adviser PH.
That perspective has shaped her approach ever since: beyond policies, beyond compliance, and into the people-first side of HR—where individual development drives organizational success.
Why growth—not control—is the heart of HR
As Villapando’s career progressed from entry-level roles to more strategic positions, her understanding of HR evolved with it.
“It’s incredibly rewarding to know that my role allows me to support individuals not just in their day-to-day work, but in their long-term development.”
From helping a new leader build confidence to guiding someone through a career transition, she views every HR interaction as a chance to invest in someone’s potential.
“Whether it’s guiding someone through a career transition, helping a new leader build confidence, or creating programs that unlock potential across teams—I see HR as a platform to empower others.”
Shaping culture by enabling people
For Villapando, HR isn’t just an administrative or support function—it’s a strategic partner that works alongside leadership to build a thriving workplace.
“Beyond policies and processes, HR is about creating an environment where people feel seen, supported, and set up for success.”
She believes that when employees feel heard and valued, they become more resilient and motivated. In turn, the organization becomes more agile and productive.
“I take pride in being a true business partner—collaborating with leaders to shape a culture that encourages learning, resilience, and performance.”
The ripple effect of people-first HR
Villapando finds the deepest meaning in the moments when people grow—when they gain confidence, take on new challenges, or overcome doubt. It’s in those quiet milestones that she sees her impact.
“When people grow, the organization grows with them.”
And while some might measure HR success in efficiency metrics or headount, Villapando looks for something else: transformation.
“Being part of that transformation, and knowing I’ve played even a small part in someone’s journey, is what makes this work truly meaningful.”
Why purpose makes all the difference
For Villapando, HR is no longer just about structure and systems—it’s about service and stewardship. Her day-to-day may include processes, forms, and planning, but her mindset is always centered on one thing: helping people become their best selves.
And that’s the reason she stayed in HR—not because it was the original plan, but because it gave her something more valuable: a purpose she could stand behind every day.
