For Dr. Noel M. Salazar Jr., the journey into Human Resources didn’t begin with a career shift—it began with a deeper purpose.
“My journey into Human Resources began not through a single decision, but through a series of meaningful experiences,” he shared in an exclusive interview with Financial Adviser PH. “I discovered a strong desire to help others grow, navigate challenges, and realize their potential.”
Dr. Salazar’s professional path started in the field of education. In the Philippines, he held roles as a Master Teacher, College Instructor, and eventually, College Dean. It was in these leadership capacities that he began to take on responsibilities in faculty development, performance planning, employee support, and organizational design—core functions of HR.
“As I advanced into leadership roles in academic institutions, I found myself increasingly involved in areas like training, employee support, and organizational development,” he said. “These responsibilities were deeply rooted in HR principles, which led me to formalize my expertise and fully embrace HR as my chosen profession.”
His transition became even more profound when he moved to Canada, where he now teaches HR and business-related courses at multiple postsecondary institutions including the Northern Alberta Institute of Technology (NAIT), Olds College, and Campbell College. Through education, he continues to shape the next generation of HR professionals—drawing from real-world experience, cross-cultural insights, and academic rigor.
“Teaching Human Resources in a postsecondary setting exposed me to a wide spectrum of learners, each bringing unique cultural perspectives, life experiences, and career goals,” he said. “It deepened my understanding of inclusion, generational dynamics, and evolving workforce expectations.”
His academic credentials are equally impressive: a Doctorate in Business Administration, an MBA, and certifications including Licensed Professional Teacher (LPT) and Certified Human Resource Professional (CHRP Philippines).
But beyond titles, it’s his people-first philosophy that defines his impact. “People don’t always remember what you did, but they will always remember how you made them feel,” he reflected. “In HR, empathy, respect, and fairness are not just values—they are daily practices.”
Dr. Salazar’s journey from Pampanga to Canada is more than just a geographic transition. It’s a powerful story of how education and human resources, when aligned with purpose and equity, can create truly inclusive workplaces.
By blending his passion for teaching with a strategic understanding of HR, he continues to influence students, organizations, and communities—proving that the most meaningful careers are those built on empathy, transformation, and a commitment to lifelong learning.
